Question #325

Can I have a link that will open a page that contains a Tab Panel Magic 2 (TPM3) system and trigger a specific tab to open when the page loads? Perhaps by using a special anchor or an URL parameter?

The Answer

Prepared Mar. 2014 by Gerry Jacobsen, PVII

An opener detection system is included in the Tab Panel Magic 3 (TPM3) system that allows you to set up links with special parameters that will load a page and also trigger a specific tab in a TPM3 widget on that page. The opener will look for the TPM3 widget number, an underscore, and the TPM3 tab number.

There are 2 methods available:

Anchor Method:

The system will look for "#tp3" plus a tab number reference after the anchor. The anchor, index.htm#tp31_4, will trigger tab 4 in the first TPM3 widget on the page.

URL Parameter Method:

The system will look for "tp3=" in the URL parameter. A URL parameter, index.htm?tp3=2_4, will trigger tab 4 in the second TPM3 widget on the page. You can then give out the link so people can go directly to your specific content panel.

If you have more than one TPM3 widget on the page then you can add multiple URL parameters like:

index.htm?tp3=1_3&tp3=2_2

to open each widget to the desired panel.

Note: This feature is meant to be used on links to your page from external locations—not on links that are in your page. If you want to open a Tab that is on the same page then use the included TPM3 Control Behavior.
