Question #290

Can I have a link that will open a page that contains an Horizontal Glider Magic (hgm) system and trigger a specific content panel to open when the page loads? Perhaps by using a special anchor or an URL parameter?

The Answer

An opener detection system is included in the Horizontal Glider magic (HGM) system that allows you to set up links with special parameters that will load a page and also trigger a specific panel in an HGM widget on that page. The opener will look for the HGM widget number, an underscore, and the HGM content panel number.

There are 2 methods available:

Anchor Method:

The system will look for "#hgm" plus a panel reference after the anchor. The anchor, index.htm#hgm1_4, will trigger panel 4 in the first HGM Widget on the page.

URL Parameter Method:

The system will look for "hgm=" in the URL parameter. A URL parameter, index.htm?hgm=2_4, will trigger panel 4 in the second HGM widget on the page. You can then give out the link so people can go directly to your specific content panel.

If you have more than one HGM widget on the page then you can add multiple URL parameters like:

index.htm?hgm=1_3&hgm=2_2

to open each widget to the desired panel.
