Question #288

On pages with the Glide Panel Magic (GPM) system, particularly in IE browsers, there is an occasional flash, or the page never fully loads and the system does not function. Is there a work around for this?

The Answer

Prepared Jan. 2010 by Gerry Jacobsen, PVII

The fast loading initializer in the Glide Panel Magic (GPM) system is designed to set up before the browser actually renders the page. Depending on the page content and other scripts on the page there can be a delay before the system initializes, or the status bar indicates the page is not fully loaded and the system is non-functional. If this is an issue on your page then you can deploy this work around to assure that the system is being initialized as soon as possible in order to avoid any content flashing, loading delays or problems with other scripts:

1. In Code View locate the ending </body> tag in the page markup:

</body>
</html>

2. Make a new line directly above the ending </body> tag and Copy & Paste this code block into that new line:

<script type="text/javascript">
  P7_initGPM();
</script>

so that it now looks like this:

<script type="text/javascript">
  P7_initGPM();
</script>
</body>
</html>

3. Save the page.

That's it. The system will now initialize as soon as the browser receives the html markup, prior to the rendering of the page.

Note: If you have other PVII widgets or menus on the same page you can insert more than one initializer into the same JavaScript block. For example, if you also have a Pop Menu Magic 2 system on the same page you can combine the initializer into the same code block, like this:

<script type="text/javascript">
  P7_initGPM();
  P7_PMMinit();
</script>
</body>
</html>
